Brafferton and Helperby Parish Councils contributed to the construction of a new village hall in 1999, which is located just off Main Street Helperby, adjacent to the War Memorial. The hall, which is well used by the whole community, has two principal rooms — the Main Hall (16.5m x 9.0m), and the Waud Room (9.0m x 6.2m) — which are variously used for Badminton, Keep Fit, Mums & Tots and Yoga sessions, an extensive range of dance lessons, Watercolours and Poetry Appreciation groups, Parish Council, Women’s Institute and other meetings, Christening and children’s birthday parties, dances, and wedding receptions, not to mention Helperby Beer Festival! It also acts as a polling station from time and to time and is hired by external bodies for training days and seminars.
