Council Vacancy
The newly created Brafferton & Helperby Parish Council met for the first time on Wednesday 15 May 19. As a result of the uncontested election of 2 May 19 the new council has 6 councillors leaving it with one councillor vacancy to fill by co-option.
Any person who wishes to be considered for co-option to the Brafferton & Helperby Parish Council is requested to contact, by letter or email, either Parish Council Clerk by the closing date of Monday 10 June 2019, for consideration at the council meeting on Wednesday 19 June 2019.
Please provide a brief summary (no more than 100 words) of your connection with the village, your interests, experience and, if appropriate, any particular features of the community that you may wish to champion.
At the council meeting of 15 May it was noted by councillors and members of the public present that there are currently no female council members. While not intending to positively discriminate, the council does hope that it will receive applications from female parishioners.
Certain conditions must be satisfied for a person to be considered to be a Parish Councillor and may be found in the Local Government Act 1972; below are summarised the main features (further information may be obtained by contacting the Clerks):
- have reached 18 years of age.
- must not have incurred certain court convictions.
- be an elector of the parish; OR
- for the whole of the past 12 months have occupied (as owner or tenant) land or other premises in the parish; OR
- during that 12 month period have resided in the parish or within 3 miles of it; OR
- during that 12 month period have worked in the parish (as your principal or only place of work).
